Hi! Here’s a comfortable outfit idea that’s great for the office but can also take you through to after-work drinks if you wish. I’m really not into the whole shirt + pencil skirt office look as I find it way too stuffy. I’m lucky enough to work from home most days so I can wear whatever (Spongebob onesie anyone?) but on the days when I do need to go into an office for a client meeting I like to find ways around the traditional white collar look.
More pictures and a breakdown after the jump –>>
It’s no secret that I like my looks to match well so, when I’m in a pinch for time and need to look smart, all black everything is always my first thought.
A blazer is great base for a work outfit because it’s universally recognised as smartwear. Regardless of if you’re in the boardroom or the bar, a blazer says ‘I mean business’ (whether you’re referring to your research or your red wine!), it’s a power piece that says that you take yourself seriously and others should to. Skinny jeans and a t-shirt may seem slightly too casual for the office but opt for black and everything looks more formal. Opt for a loose fit tee (so as not to be inappropriately figure-hugging) tucked into belted jeans and suddenly your look is ten times sharper.
Usually I’d opt for pointed court shoes for the office but, as we’ve already gone for skinny jeans, boots with a block heel, rather than a stiletto, work well to offset the figure-hugging jeans to make the whole look more demure.
A stylish backpack is perfect for the desk-to-dance floor kinda day as they’re big enough to carry your laptop and other essential whilst also being trendy enough to take to out after dark (thank you 90s revival). To keep yours chic opt for leather or faux leather (no nylon) in a block colour (neutral shades are best – no neon go-faster stripes please). I am secretly in love with these beauts by Grafea from ASOS but if you’re not feeling flush this month, this one from ASOS is a good all-rounder.
