In the words of Sam Cooke, ‘a change is gonna come’. A great one. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking. About what I want this blog to really be about. It started as a way for me to share the things that I loved, inspired by, envious even of the first wave of fashion bloggers who appeared on the scene.
I loved how they shared their personal style, how they each put outfits together differently and shared their individual tastes. Over time with success, of course, came money for these women and so their shopping habits shifted from Primark to Prada. Suddenly I couldn’t shop their looks… Suddenly I couldn’t relate so much.
I was envious of the beautiful clothes that they wore and inspired by what they had built but saddened by how I no longer felt that I could join in. I could no longer ‘shop the looks’, I could no longer ‘steal her style’. Instead of being bitter though, I decided to channel my energy into something positive.
I still enjoyed fashion and loved getting dressed every day. Why couldn’t I recreate a preppy, Clueless-style outfit just because my tweed jacket was from Zara and not Chanel? Who the hell could tell? I decided to inspire other people like me who were envious of the style that these women had. I wanted to step forward to show others that you can’t put a price on style. Thus, Jade With Envy was born.
Six years on, I think that this blog niche is more important than ever. In an era where every other blogger owns a Chanel bag – and god love them, I don’t begrudge them one bit for it – but I’m proud to share style inspiration that suits almost every budget. To post looks that you can shop without saving for a year and still breaking the bank. And not just fashion either. My blog has expanded to cover all aspects of having a stylish lifestyle from stunning home decor to the coolest entertainment. From how to travel in style to delicious and impressive recipes and how to recreate high-end makeup looks.
So proud am I in fact, that I want to do a lot more with my blog in 2018. I want to shout about it from the rooftops and tell every woman (man, and child), ‘HEY, YOU CAN HAVE BEAUTIFUL THINGS TOO!’. That’s why I have some reeeeally exciting stuff in the pipeline for my blog. In fact, if you listen carefully, you might be able to hear the little beavers working away at it. I can’t wait to share what I have in store with you. Bookmark this page. Tell you mother, your sister and your best friend. Watch this space, my next post (Friday’s) will be a very exciting one!
