I’m bringing you some fun, alternative denim jacket styling inspiration on this dreary Monday because I think that we could all do with a little autumn fashion inspo to get us through the darker months. You may remember this jacket from my recent haul video on YouTube. I’m kicking myself because there’s a really cool secret detail in the back of it that I forgot to photograph here but I talk about it and show you in the video anyway so you can see there if you’re into unique outfit details.
Rather than pair it with boring, black skinny jeans, I decided to be daring and offset the grunginess of the baggy denim jacket with some super-smart, high-waisted, flared, tailored trousers. The sleek, straight lines of the trousers really oppose the casual jacket. I love to mix and match styles like this as it’s more representative of my personality. Smart but laid back ;).
My rule for styling something oversized is to offset it with something fitted to avoid a totally baggy silhouette – hence the rolled up t-shirt. The fact that there’s so much material going on between the oversized denim and wide leg trousers meant I could show off a little skin without feeling too ‘on show’. I’m not usually a huge fan of fitted, white t-shirts as they tend to cling and discolour easily, making them look cheap but I’ve noticed over the years that River Island have some great quality t-shirts in a looser ‘boyfriend’ fit style that wash well. The foiled slogan on this one really makes it look more chic as it brings an added element of detail to my outfit.
I’ll be wearing this jacket a lot this season as it’s unique, comfy and oh so warm so keep following here on Rich Little Poor Girl and over on Instagram stories for more denim jacket styling inspiration ideas. Do you have any of your own? If you do, feel free to share it below so that we can all get inspired!
